Panaji: Owing to weakened systems, there were no reports of heavy rainfall spells over Goa on Friday in relation to what was anticipated for August 5. The India meteorological department (IMD) had issued an orange alert for August 5 and 6.“The main system that was expected to increase rainfall became much weaker as seen in the morning observations and its northward movement too, was slower than expected,” IMD scientist Rahul M said. The IMD, however, said that change in weather patterns may result in some rainfall later.“There may not have been such increased activity yet. It may take a few hours for it to reach the desirable location for good rainfall over Goa. However, that is if it sustains with required intensity,” he said.As of now, the IMD is continuing with its orange alert. However, rainfall of August 6 will be evaluated with latest observations and, after analysing data, the IMD will share an updated alert accordingly.“One or two places may still get rainfall exceeding 11cm in 24 hours,” Rahul said.In addition, a low pressure area is likely to form over the north west and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal by August 7. Furthermore, with its possible movement westwards, rainfall can be expected over Goa on August 8 and 9.
