Niral wins individual and team gold for Goa

Panaji: Goa clinched two gold medals in Indian indigenous sport yogasana at the fourth edition of the Khelo India Youth Games 2022 at Panchkula, Haryana, on Monday. Goa clinched gold after a gap of two editions. Niral Wadekar created history for Goa as he won an individual as well as a team gold medal in yogasana on the third day of the Games at Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex Yogasana Arena. Niral won the first gold in artistic single girl’s U-18 with a score of 134.29. The silver went to Maharashtra with a score of 132.09 and also the bronze (131.9). Goa won the second gold of the day in artistic group girl’s U-18 event. The team was made up of Niral, Aashnee Sarmalkar, Frazeen Zakati, Yashica Chevli and Manaswi Das. They scored a total of 127.5 points. Maharashtra won the silver medal with 126.9 points while Tamil Nadu settled for the bronze with 118.5 points. Goa Was also awarded yogasana girls first runners-up in the overall championship of the competition behind Maharashtra. Sports minister Govind Gaude, director sports and executive director of Sports Authority of Goa Ajay Gaude congratulated the medal winners and lauded the efforts of yogasana association and the parents of the team members. On Sunday, Manaswi Das and Yashica had won Goa a silver in artistic pairs. Goa have a total of three medals.
