PANAJI: After the University College Teachers Association, Goa, (UCTAG) wrote to the Goa University stating that college principals in the state are not conducting the required eight lectures per week, a local unit has distanced itself from the memorandum of the association. The local unit of Navelim has said that it or other units were not consulted before such a memorandum was sent to the Goa governor and chancellor of Goa University P S Sreedharan Pillai. “The local unit of Rosary College of Commerce and Arts does not have any record of this matter being discussed with local committees or their representation being sought on the same. It is appalling to see that president and secretary of UCTAG have used the office and seal of UCTAG to pursue what seems to be a personal vendetta against some principals,” said the local unit president Moses P Fernandes. Some of the claims made in the letter are absurd and possibly cannot be substantiated with any strong evidence. It is very irresponsible on the part of the president and the secretary of UCTAG to portray this as an issue of the entire association, especially without the consent of the local units, the Navelim unit has said. “It is for reasons such as these that truly important issues raised by the UCTAG will never be taken seriously by the authorities,” Fernandes said. The local unit has demanded retraction of the letter written to the governor with an apology admitting that the same was issued in personal capacity and has no representation from college teachers. The unit has also asked for resignation of the UCTAG executive committee members.
