Goan boy gets huge fan following on a video platform

Moses J Saldanha is known for his interesting blogs and videos on OTT. He started making videos in September 2020, about the situation in Goa, to help tourists who wanted to visit and were not sure if it was safe to travel. Within a span of few months he has received around 184k subscribers and over 32 million views. He is known for his travel videos and hopes to inspire many to take up this career as a hobby or a career. Q. What made you take up vlogging? During the lockdown I used to spend a lot of time watching videos and I came across many videos from Goa, most of these videos were done by tourists and people from other states and countries many of them lacked information about the beaches and places around. I realised there was a good opportunity being a local and having a local perspective, having been a traveller most of my life I thought I would help and educate tourists on the places, food and culture of Goa. I My main goal was to make interesting videos that would bring tourists back and at the same time I could help small local Goan businesses in the tourism sector that got badly hit by the pandemic. Q. When social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram are already widely used - which mostly covers content you create - Why Youtube? The thing about Youtube compared to other platforms is that people invest a lot of time and are usually searching for a specific thing or place. The way we travel has changed a lot compared to the old days. When people are travelling they prefer watching a video of a place to get as much information about the place and if it is really worth travelling to. The thing about other platforms like Instagram is there are usually a lot of edited photos and short clips which don’t really give you an in depth understanding about the place and many a times happen to be far from reality. Q. Creating content is no joke. What preparations do you do? Since most of my content is based around beaches and places, I have to do a lot of research about the particular place, especially about the surrounding areas and what are the good restaurants and cafes around to visit. The real hard work is getting all the equipment like drones set up and shooting at the right time with the right lighting. It’s honestly not as easy as it seems. Q. When you first started, I’m sure people were not as aware as they are now about vlogging, were you embarrassed to tell people what you did? What would you tell them? It’s actually quite funny. I started doing videos quite a long time back when I was quite young and I used to always tell people that I am a “Youtuber” even though I hardly had any views and just a couple subscribers at the time. I had many friends and family making fun of me or teasing me as they never thought it was possible for a person from Goa to make it big on Youtube. That’s usually where I always excel when people tell me that I can’t do something. I'm a strong believer of hard work and achieving anything is possible when you believe in yourself. Q. Being on social media is not easy, after making a video there is a tendency to get trolled? What do you do about the nasty comments? It’s very rare that I come across such situations as most of my videos are very informational and travel oriented. There are a few odd people once in a while and as a person on social media you have to learn to take it with a pinch of salt. As a creator I would always advise people to block such people immediately. Positive criticism is always accepted but negativity should never be allowed. And if you keep it around it will spread very quickly.
