Bicholim: Residents of Bicholim are busy storing food items like red chillies, raw mangoes, cocum and dry fish, an age-old tradition practiced in Goa ahead of the monsoons when procuring many of these articles becomes difficult. Bicholim market witnessed an impressive sale of mangoes. In local parlance, these food articles are called purument. The raw mangoes fetched a price between Rs 250 and Rs 450 for 100 pieces, and a local vendor said that they likely have only two weeks more to sell the raw fruit. “There are possibilities of sudden rain in which case the fruit will rot,” the vendor said. “We store raw mangoes every year, and during monsoon, we eat slices of the fruit with meals along with dry fish. However, this year the sale has been delayed due to bad climate and it seems that perhaps the next two weeks will be the last for the sale of purument, especially raw mangoes,” a housewife said.
