Here comes the sun: Skies clear, monsoon to be weaker this week

Panaji: With no major systems currently prevailing along the Goa coast, the skies cleared on Monday, keeping it largely sunny. The monsoon activity over Goa is likely to be weaker or normal in the coming four to five days, with intense rainfall activity having taken a break. “There was a circulation over Odisha and a depression off the Gujarat coast. All these systems have moved away and do not have any significant impact over Goa. As of now, there is no increased special gradient across the coast,” said IMD scientist Rahul M. Goa will therefore have a brief break from the intense rainfall activity that prevailed last week. “The rainfall activity will be subdued for almost two weeks. For the rainfall to pick up again, another weather enhancing system or monsoon enhancing system may have to form, such as an offshore trough or a circulation over the Bay of Bengal or the Arabian Sea,” Rahul said. On days that it rained heavily, the maximum temperature over Goa was around 27 degrees C. On Monday, as the skies cleared, the IMD recorded an increase in the maximum temperature with 29 degrees C prevailing over the state. With the southwest monsoon being weak over the state, light to moderate rainfall occurred at most places over Goa. The rain gauge stations at Valpoi and Sanguem recorded 3cm each of rainfall, Pernem, Sanquelim, Margao and Quepem recorded 2cm each, while Panaji, Canacona, Dabolim and Mormugao recorded 1cm each.
