Starting today, Goa restarts Covishield drive

PANAJI: Due to the recent global surge in covid cases and the detection of a new variant that has been categorised as a variant of concern (VOC), the directorate of health services has decided to restart its Covishield vaccination campaign for the adult population at select government facilities from Wednesday.Vaccination will be free and done twice a week — Wednesday between 9am and 4 pm and Saturday between 9am and 12 pm — till February 9, or until the vaccine stock runs out.Vaccination will be undertaken at the community health centres of Canacona, Sanquelim and Pernem. Also, at the primary health centres of Quepem, Ponda, and Chimbel, and the urban health centres of Margao, Vasco, Panaji, and Mapusa, and at the Goa Medical College. Prioritisation and sequencing of the precautionary dose will be based on the completion of six months after the second dose was administered either on or before July 17, 2022. For international travellers, a gap of three months will be considered.The official said that those who have received two doses of Covishield will be administered a Covishield dose as a precautionary dose.The registration will be on the spot. Beneficiaries have been asked to present their final vaccination certificate along with phone number and identity proof used for previous vaccination.
