The prize distribution ceremony was held at Rajalakshmi Institute of Technology, Chennai, onApril 17, 2022.Vijnana Bharati or VIBHA, previously known as Swadeshi Science Movement, is a non-profit organisation in India that works for the popularisation of sciences in a nationalist manner. Its main aim is to rejuvenate the Swadeshi Movement in this age of science and technology for the purpose of national reconstruction. Shiksha Shilpi is an initiative of Vijnana Bharati to enhance teachers’ teaching techniques to help them excel and thus help their students to do better.“I joined the Shiksha Shilpi program on ‘Aahaar Kranti’, which was a lecture series by eminent scientists of India over a period of two months where a lot of knowledge about nutrition was imparted to teachers from all over the country. We attended the lectures through the online mode. After compelition of the course we had to write a script and make videos based on what we learned,” she says and adds that the video was to be made keeping in mind the audience thatwould view it.And since her target group was class 9 to class 12 teenagers, she wrote the lyrics with a mix of English and Hindi and composed a rap song, a genre appealing to the teens so that they would view the song and get awareness on the importance of good nutrition and balanced diet. The lyrics and video of the song highlight the importance of good, balanced nutrition, positive lifestyle and ill effects of junk food. While the vocals for the song have been sung by Bryan Ivor (a leading musician from Goa who is her husband). “The motivation to do this song came naturally since I had the knack for writing lyrics. The Goa Prant coordinators and other biology teachers from Goa also motivated me. The competition was tough since hundreds of participants from all over the country took part and some of the participants were doctorateholders,” she says. All the content created by participants was sent to judging panels in each state and winners were decided by the cumulative points earned by each participant. “This prize came as a surprise since my rap song was a bit unconventional, but I guess its appeal to the youth helped to drive the message home,” says Pires who was a Goa Universitygold medalist. As a creative person she likes to create various artworks and often writes poems and has penned lyrics for many popular songs like Hold my hand, Come on FC Goa andViva Sao Joao.
