Shirodkar for digitalisation of cooperatives

Staff ReporterPondaCalling for transparency in the cooperative sector, Minister for Cooperation Subhash Shirodkar on Saturday said the systems of all the organisations in the cooperative sector in the state need to be digitalised in six months’ time.“I will keep a strict check on the systems and businesses of all the organisations to track malpractices, if any, so that people’s money is not misused,” Shirodkar said. He was addressing a gathering at the Kala Mandir in Ponda after inaugurating the 7th Goa State Conference of the Sahakar Bharati.“There is a need for digitalisation of all the cooperative organisations in the state to bring in transparency so that people will have more trust in such organisations,” Shirodkar said. For better progress of the sector, a training institute is the need of the hour, the Minister said and added that such an institute will help in sharing expertise in the cooperative field and also help the upcoming cooperative organisations.Stating that the cooperative movement has prominently reached the masses with around 15 lakh people connected, Shirodkar said the state has over 5,000 cooperative institutes, which, he said, is more than double the educational institutes in the state.Speaking about women connected to the cooperative sector through self-help groups, Shirodkar said the government will try to set up a marketing unit before 2024 to help the women and small farmers to market their produce in an effective way. He also urged the Goa Bagayatdar to make special arrangements to sell products and produce of the self-help groups. Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phaldesai, former MP Narendra Sawaikar, national president of Sahakar Bharati Dinanath Thakur, Sahakar Bharati’s Goa state president Prakash Velip and others were present on the occasion.Thakur expressed an idea to make Goa a model state in the cooperative field by linking every person to the sector.
