Panaji: The department of tourism has directed all stakeholders, especially online service providers, to register their businesses with the department. The recently amended Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Rules, 1985, has brought new tourist services, like adventure sports, spice plantations and online service providers, under the purview of registration. The rules were notified and brought into effect from April 1. The department has stated that only two online service providers — MakeMyTrip India Pvt Ltd and IBIBO Group Pvt Ltd — are currently registered with it. In a public notice, the department has stated that every person in the business of accommodation, running a travel agency, operating tours or water sports activities, dealing in handicrafts, working as tourist guides or photographers, operating government and private shacks and private huts, renting out deck beds, umbrellas, etc, have to register their activities. If already registered, they have been directed to apply for renewal of registration. The department has stated that “action deemed fit will be initiated against” online service providers who fail to register their business.
