One dies after truck overturns at Canacona

Canacona: A truck carrying bamboo fell on its side near Bhumipurush temple at Gulem, Canacona, on Tuesday killing one Porama Hutia, 35, who got trapped under the bamboo.Hutia, a native of Assam and a resident of Cabo-de-Rama, Canacona, was among eight labourers in the truck. Another labourer Manom Gam, 18, also a native of Assam, suffered a fracture to his leg . Police said Hutia was taken out from under the bamboos by police and fire services personnel, and shifted to the Canacona CHC where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. His body was shifted to the South Goa district hospital, Margao, for an autopsy.Police said that the truck from Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, was heading to Cabo-de-Rama. “They were to take the bypass route to Agonda road but took a longer route via Gulem. While negotiating a sharp turn, just metres before the Bhumipurush temple, Praveen Passte, 24, the driver, lost control over the vehicle and the truck fell on its side,” police said.

Canacona: If the construction work of the Rs 11 crore 3-storey administrative-cum-commercial building of the Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) is not carried out as per the specifications and designs, then it will not be tolerated said assembly speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, in a veiled warning to the contractor of the Goa State Urban Development Agency.Councillors have been complaining of the delays in works during the monthly council meetings and also the faulty designs, he said.Recently, the matter was brought to the notice of the Canacona MLA by CMC chairperson Ramakant Naik Gaunkar and a joint inspection was also held .CMC complained of non-availability of the construction plan at the work site besides faulty execution of the work.
