Govt must ensure potholes are filled, roads repaired within next 4 wks: HC

Panaji: The high court of Bombay at Goa on Wednesday directed the state, through its chief secretary, to ensure that potholes are filled and roads on specified stretches are repaired as expeditiously as possible and, in any case, within four weeks.Amicus Curiae Gaurang Panandikar pointed out that the potholes on these stretches need to be filled or the roads remain to be repaired and that it is the responsibility of the government to do so.“In our judgment, these works of filling of potholes or otherwise repairing all roads, must be completed with utmost priority. Now that the monsoon has also substantially receded, there is no sufficient reason for not completing these works as expeditiously as possible and no later than four weeks from today,” stated justices Mahesh Sonak and Bharat P Deshpande.“The executive engineers within whose jurisdiction the above stretches fall must supervise, if possible on a daily basis, so that there is no further delay. Further, the executive engineers must submit reports to the superintending engineers. The superintending engineers, based on such reports, must file compliance reports on or before the next date,” the court stated.“Further, we add that the superintending engineers concerned must also take all steps to ensure that these directions of filling potholes and repairing roads is completed within a maximum period of four weeks from today,” the HC stated.
