Finish hiring for jobs advertised within yr

Panaji: The state government on Thursday issued the Goa Staff Selection Commission (GSSC) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022, directing all its departments to complete recruitments for posts advertised before January 8, prior to the model code of conduct for the 2022 assembly election, within a year. The state government had started recruitments of around 10,000 vacancies prior to the assembly election. A senior officer said that, if at all any advertisement has been issued after January 9, 2021, it will now be filled by the GSSC. “Provided that where advertisements for filling up of the subordinate service posts were issued prior to the eighth day of January, 2022, the concerned department may conduct examination and complete the selection process to subordinate service posts not later than one year from the date of commencement of the Goa Staff Selection Commission (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022,” governor P S Sreedharan Pillai said in the ordinance. In January 2021, the state government passed the Goa Staff Selection Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2021, which allowed government departments to conduct recruitment in an election year instead of the commission. In 2019, the state government established the Goa Staff Selection Commission for the purpose of conducting examinations and selection of candidates for appointments to subordinate services/posts in government departments.

He has won Goa State Youth Award in 2015, Best Social Worker Award in 2016 and has led YUVA to win many accolades over a decade. Radiya Mahale has completed her M.Pharm and successfully runs her own Pharmacy in Panaji whereas Akhil Prabhu Verlekar has completed his MCOM under Goa University. No power for Pernem, Bardez on Sunday

Panaji: The electricity department has announced a general shutdown for nine hours on Sunday, May 22, for entire talukas of Pernem and Bardez and part of Tiswadi to carry out annual monsoon maintenance work at the Tivim substation. The power shutdown will be between 7am and 4pm. All the power cables including 220, 110, 33 and 11kV will be off during the nine hours. As a result of this, there will also be restricted water supply to Pernem and Bardez talukas on Sunday and Monday. The PWD has stated that there will be no production of treated water at the Chandel water treatment plant and the Assonora water treatment plant due to the power shutdown.

Panaji: Two accused have been granted bail in the murder case of Vilas Methar who was burnt alive at Salvador do Mundo in 2020. All seven accused have now been granted bail. The last two accused, accused No. 2 and No. 6 Pawan Badigar and Santosh Pillai were granted bail on Thursday. The first accused Altaf Yargatti, after being denied bail by the lower courts and the high court, was granted bail by the Supreme Court. Accused 3, 4, 5, 7, Prashant alias Vishwajeet alias Bhaiya Dabolkar, Khayad alias Shafi Shaikh, Iqbal Nanpuri and Shailesh alias Shailu Shetty were released on bail by the high court. The court found that on perusal of the chargesheet, the roles attributed to Badigar and Pillai based on their voluntary statement before the police following the arrest, and statements of witnesses to police, that they were involved in making fake licence number plates for vehicles used in the offence. They are also alleged to have taken part in criminal conspiracy and were seen discussing the conspiracy in the CCTV footage of a restaurant at Panaji with the prime accused No. 1. Adv Ritesh Rawal and Adv Michael Nazareth appeared for the two accused. Methar had obtained information under the Right to Information Act of irregularities in the building of the first accused at Donwado. In October 2020, Methar, who was driving, was waylaid by two persons who poured fuel on him and set him on fire. He succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The murder had also taken a political turn with BJP demanding indepth investigation and local MLA Rohan Khaunte demanding CBI inquiry.

Panaji: Director general of police (DGP) Jaspal Singh on Thursday felicitated two students, Sakshi Ishwar Kale and Nimrit Pasricha for sporting excellence. Kale, a student of GVM SNJA Higher Secondary School, Farmagudi, won the top position at the 20th national para-athletic championship held in Bhubaneshwar. Pasricha, a student at Naval Children School, Vasco has been selected to represent India at the Asian junior squash championship to be held at Pattaya, Thailand next month. Singh said that Goa Police will reach out to initiative of an outreach with promising youth within the state to spread an image of showcase a people-friendly force and to celebrate achievements of the younger generation.

Panaji: Goa received light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning on Thursday with no major incident reported in the last 24 hours, according to the state disaster management authority.The India Meteorological Department had issued a heavy rainfall alert at isolated places on Thursday and Friday due to presence of a trough in the lower levels passing through Karnataka and upper cyclonic circulation over north Tamil Nadu, resulting in bad weather accompanied by clouds, heavy rains and thundershowers.As per rainfall data released by the IMD on Thursday, the state on an average has received 0.6mm rainfall against the normal rains of 3.2mm in the last 24 hours. Quepem recorded the highest rainfall of 4mm followed by Sanguem 0.9mm.“All the rain gauge stations have recorded 40-50% rainfall in the last 24 hours. The rainfall distribution was scattered which will continue on Friday with heavy rains at isolated places and thereafter the rainfall intensity will reduce,” the IMD scientist Rahul M said.Fishermen are advised not to venture along and off South Maharashtra-Goa coast for next 24 hours due to squally weather conditions.
