Declare final year results by August 18 or face protests: NSUI to Goa University

PANAJI: Even as Goa University promised to announce its final year results by August, the results of about 10,000 students, including graduate and post-graduate students, have not been declared, putting the prospects of the students in jeopardy, said the National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Friday. The NSUI — Congress’ student wing — has warned that if the results are not announced by August 18, students will besiege the vice-chancellor the next day. State president Naushad Chowdhari also met governor P S Sreedharan Pillai and urged him to intervene. Pillai reportedly told the NSUI delegation that he would follow up with the university regarding the results. “Goa University is playing with the career and future of students. I have requested the governor to take action against Goa University in this matter. This is happening again and again every semester, where the university is delaying the announcement of the exam result,” said Chowdhari. Initially, the varsity said that the result would be announced on August 5. After that, the varsity postponed the date to August 18. “Goa University’s NAAC grading and NIRF ranking has come down. From this, it is clear that the university is not serious about its work. Due to this, it seems that it has become a tradition of Goa University to announce results late,” said the NSUI president. Chowdhari blamed the Goa University management system for the delay. The university spent around Rs 8 crore to set up the system, but a malfunction has repeatedly been causing delays. “Although the admission process for further education has started, students are finding it difficult to get admission as the results are not yet available. The chief minister should also intervene and take action, as he is the education minister of the state,” said Chowdhari.
