CCMC looks to resolve property tax issue

Staff ReporterCurchoremAction will be initiated against the shopkeepers in Curchorem market area for failing to pay the property tax and also those who obtain electric connection on the basis of the provisional trade licence. This decision was taken during the monthly meeting of the Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) held on Thursday in the administrative building.The meeting was chaired by chairperson Vishwas Sawant in the presence of vice chairperson Rucha Vast, chief officer Manohar Karekar and councillors. Local MLA Nilesh Cabral was also present.It was decided that in order to augment the funds of CCMC to take steps for the recovery of the taxes including house tax, trade tax and shop rents. The shops in the old building and those in the new administrative building will be auctioned. The stalls in the newly constructed food court will also be auctioned in order to bring cleanliness besides the road nearSUDA market.It was also decided to make the newly repaired fish market functional by compelling the fish vendors sitting outside to carry out business in the market.It was further decided to shift the Aadhaar card office to the newly constructed administrative building for the convenience ofthe people.Speaking to the media, MLA Cabral said the shopkeepers will have to obtain power connection after the payment of the house tax and not on the basis of provisional trade licence. There are several people who are running businesses without trade licences. They will be requested to obtain trade licences if they want to avoid any action.Chairperson Vishwas Sawant said though the CCMC has repaired fish markets by spending Rs 20 lakhs, vendors are seen doing their business outside the fish market. Action will be taken against the vendors and they will be compelled to carry on business in the fish market.
