Panaji: Goa’s traffic police personnel will soon receive training in management of traffic. Director general of police (DGP) Jaspal Singh on Friday said that Rohit Baluja, director of the College of Traffic Management at New Delhi will prepare a detailed syllabus and conduct the training.“We had a very useful meeting with Baluja on Friday and discussed traffic enforcement strategy with him. Baluja is a world-renowned traffic and road safety expert, and has agreed to train Goa’s traffic police personnel,” Singh said. “Initially, officers of the rank of assistant sub inspector (ASI) and above, attached to the traffic cell, will be trained. In the second batch, police sub-inspectors (PSIs) attached to district police stations will be trained.” The DGP further said that officers of the rank of deputy superintendent of police (DySP) would be trained as trainers, so that later they can train other police officers.Speaking to TOI, Singh said that even if Goa police personnel are trained in traffic management, they will be trained again by the experts on rules, regulation and signages. Former chief minister Manohar Parrikar had invited Baluja to Goa for traffic management in the state. Office space was also provided to him to advice the state on management of traffic.Goa police has already started a special night drive against drunken driving and overspeeding. Transport minister Mauvin Godinho on Wednesday said that post the monsoon, the transport department will also initiate a drive against drunk driving and cars with tinted glasses.
