Goa: AAP alleges Cabral building massive home in eco-sensitive zone

Panaji: Accusing environment minister and Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral of flouting all norms, AAP on Monday questioned how permissions were given to Cabral to build a palatial home abutting a river in Curchorem for which around a hundred trees were chopped. AAP also said that the construction is coming up on a slope and that the hill was being cut to make way for the construction. The party’s chief ministerial candidate, Amit Palekar alleged that during the pandemic Cabral has been buying up acres of prime real estate and secretly obtaining permission to build a massive home. “The illegal property is worth significantly more than the wealth Cabral claims in his affidavit,” Palekar said. “This property lies in an eco sensitive zone . Permissions for this construction should not have been given in the first place.” AAP has alleged that Cabral obtained permission for the project by falsifying records and flouting all Town and Country Planning norms. “The government is running a secret get-rich program for a few special individuals. It’s designed for the privileged set of old politicians in Goa,” Palekar alleged. He said that AAP will obtain all documents related to the property and bring further details to light. Palekar along with AAP’s Curchorem candidate Gabriel Fernandes and several other AAP members visited the site of the construction at Curchorem. “In connection with my involvement with Goyan Kolso Naka and painting the road, Cabral registered an FIR against me. Why then has no action been taken against Cabral, since he destroyed numerous trees,” Fernandes said. Meanwhile, in Panaji, social activist Ravi Harmalkar from Siolim joined AAP in the presence of AAP Goa desk in-charge Atishi. Addressing the media Atishi said, “Ravi Harmalkar played an instrumental role in the Save Mhadei river agitation and the agitation against the three-linear projects through Mollem. Since 2018, he has been a part of the Goa Foundation. He established Gomantak Bahujan Samaj to raise issues related to bahujans,” Atishi said.
